John Harrison establishes a ropewalk what is then called the South End.

[1642-WE] It is located near the corner of today’s Purchase Street and Summer Street. The first ropewalk in Boston, it is operated by Harrison, who petitions the selectmen not to license a rival artisan in 1663.
